Fun Run FAQs

When is my student participating in the Fun Run?

Students will participate by grade levels, per the following schedule:

9:30-10:15am — Grades 4 & 5

10:30-11:15am — Grades 2 & 3

1:30-2:15pm — Grades K & 1

(Note: The actual running portion of the event lasts 20 minutes.)

Will I be able to volunteer?

Yes, we will need many volunteers for the day of the event. All volunteers must be approved in advance through Beaverton School District’s Raptor system (even if you have volunteered in prior years). Learn more or complete a volunteer application here.  Volunteer signups will be published on ParentSquare at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 8.

Volunteers should check in at the field.

Can I watch the event as a spectator?

We would love for you to attend the Fun Run and cheer on our runners! The Fun Run is a great opportunity to come together as a Cedar Mill community.

In accordance with district-wide policy, all school visitors—including spectators—must be checked in through the Raptor system and wear a visitor badge while on school grounds.

Spectators have two options:

  1. Register through BSD’s volunteer system AND sign up in advance through ParentSquare. Many parents have already completed the BSD volunteer registration. If you have not, you cancomplete a volunteer application here. You must also sign up through ParentSquare by September 23 to attend as a spectator.

If you complete both steps, we can pre-print your visitor badge. You can then go directly to the Fun Run entrance next to the fire lane to check in.

  1. Check in at the front office on the day of the event. You can stop at the front office to complete the Raptor check-in process and receive a visitor badge before heading to the Fun Run. Please bring a government-issued ID or Raptor Safe passport. We will have a volunteer in the office to help expedite check-in, but please allow extra time if you plan to watch the entire run session.

We strongly recommend Option #1, as the in-person check-in process can be slow when many visitors arrive at the same time. We also highly encourage families to download the Raptor Safe app for iPhone orAndroid and set up a Raptor Passport, which is the quickest way to complete the check-in process.

Spectators are not permitted at the Fun Run without a visitor badge. A designated spectator area will be available where families can watch and cheer on all of our runners.

Sign up as a Fun Run Spectator through ParentSquare

Where does the event take place?

Students will run laps on the lower field at Cedar Mill Elementary. Note that part of the area where students will run is the dirt surface of the baseball field and it may cause your child’s shoes to get dirty.

Where can I park for the event?

Parking at CME is very limited and always a challenge during school events. Spectators and volunteers may NOT park along the curb / bus lane closest to the school and may NOT park in the loading zone nearest to where our students enter the school in the morning. The school receives regular deliveries into the cafeteria, which requires use of the loading zone.

The lot for both CME and Cedar Mill Park will be full throughout the day. Please plan sufficient time to park in a nearby neighborhood and make the short walk to school. NW Ash Street and NW Ash Creek Lane – just east of the school – have abundant street parking.

What should my child wear?

All students will receive a new Cedar Mill Elementary t-shirt the morning of the event. Most students wear this shirt over their existing clothing. This year’s t-shirt will be cobalt blue with a white logo. Feel free to encourage your child to dress in our school colors, blue and yellow!

We recommend having your child run in shoes that are able to get dirty. If rain is forecast, consider sending backup shoes/socks to change into after the event.

Does my child have to run the entire time? How many laps is typical?

Students can choose to run, jog or walk. Most kids complete 10-15 laps in 20 minutes.

How can I donate to the fundraiser?

  1. Donations are collected through our online fundraising platform, Pledgestar. Encourage your students to collect online pledges from friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers.

  2. Check with your employer to see if they match donations. If you choose to make your donation directly through your company’s corporate giving site, please email waysandmeans@cedarmillptc.org with your child(ren)’s name(s), teacher(s) and donation amount so your donation can be counted with the Fun Run total.

  3. We also offer corporate sponsorship opportunities for the Fun Run. If you, or someone you know, has a business which might be interested in supporting Cedar Mill PTC, while increasing visibility among our school community, please contact waysandmeans@cedarmillptc.org
